About Us

About Us

Buttercup Barn Day Nursery is situated in beautiful farmland grounds, we offer a holistic approach to learning where adventure, curiosity and creativity is fostered through a love of learning. The nursery is situated on a Duchy farm in Newton St Loe, just outside of Bath.  The setting is surrounded by private beautiful countryside, woodland, and streams-all of which the children explore regularly during walks, woodland activities, and forest schools.

We nurture and support our children to become self-assured, caring, and curious learners. Every child has enormous potential and the importance of the early years in a child's development cannot be over-emphasised. Buttercup Barn offers a rich enabling environment with experienced, caring, and responsive practitioners.

Working in partnership with Parents.
Parents are children's first and most enduring educators, we believe that working together has a positive impact on children's development and learning. Parents are invited to enhance our planning, share your child’s achievements, and be involved in nursery events. Working together in partnership ensures we plan for and support your child's needs, interests, and your parental choices well.

Our Rooms

The Nest

In our Nest space we provide our babies with a cosy, warm and nurturing environment full of stimulating and sensory activities for them to enjoy and explore. We ensure we spend lots of time building strong bonds with our children which helps encourage each child to settle, flourish and develop. The children are planned for according to their interests and needs and we work in partnership with our families to provide a home from home nurturing environment.
We welcome babies from three months old and they stay in this room until 18 months old or the September after their first birthday depending on when they become confident on their feet. Children then move to our Hedgehogs toddler room.

Hedgehogs
Our Hedgehogs room cares for Children from 18 months. The resources within the room are carefully selected to support the children’s imaginative and creative play through natural, heuristic, and sensory experiences. The resources and play opportunities nurture and enhance the children’s learning, their relationships and encourage speech, communication, and language development. Practitioners carefully plan activities for each child based on each individual child’s interests and needs.

Children are taken on regular walks throughout the grounds and woodland, they enjoy seeing the tractors, animals and playing in our den areas. There is also plenty of fun garden play time which helps develop children’s strength, co-ordination, and motor skills.

Foxes
Foxes is our Nursery room for children aged two to three years. In our Nursery room we continue to develop our children’s personal, social and emotional skills including their friendships, their sense of self, understanding of their own and others feelings, and through the encouragement to express how they feel through words. The children begin to display kindness and caring for their little community which is wonderful to watch as they grow.

The staff have secure and warm relationships with the children, they know them well and plan fantastic and thought-provoking play opportunities for their young minds! Our children’s emerging literacy and numeracy skills are encouraged through well planned, thought provoking and interesting activities and play, all of which encourage critical thinking and sustained shared thinking. The children enjoy plenty of messy play, sensory and arty creativity as well as imaginative play.

Our foxes’ children have increased routine as they grow and flourish. Children are helped to learn to take turns and make choices for themselves. Practitioners continue to plan fun learning opportunities based around the interests and needs of individual children in order to develop the child’s next steps.

Badgers
Children move to Badgers, our Pre-School, the September after they turn three and spend their final year before school in this spacious, light bright and airy environment.
In Badgers we have an emphasis on structured routine and free flow play in and outdoors. Children are continually supported to thrive and develop a real love of learning whilst developing their independence skills. We focus on school readiness, particularly in terms of the children’s personal, social, and emotional abilities, ensuring they have strong understanding, communication and listening skills. We provide excellent teaching as each child is stretched according to their interests, needs and next steps. During this year we introduce phase one of letters and sounds phonics, have a book sharing library and provide a wealth of superb resources and fun tools through awe inspiring activities for children to further develop in all areas of learning.

We inspire adventure through our regular forest school days lead by Kate, our nursery Manager. Children enjoy plenty of time outside and are taken for regular walks, exploring, and playing in our private countryside grounds and finding lots of treasures to take back to the nursery and discuss.

We nurture children in a safe, secure caring environment according to their individual interests and needs.
Encouraging your child to blossom, we focus on building strong relationships between your child and our staff and particularly with your child's key person.
We seek to ensure your child is happy, relaxed and experiences awe inspiring moments each and every day.
